"Whew!" is all I can say!!! The Google Educator Level 1 exam was intense but, as the screenshot image above shows, I passed. Completing the exam was two hours, 58 minutes and 33 seconds of intense concentration, intense completion of tasks and a bit of googling on the side to find out how to do tasks I couldn't automatically do. The parts of the exam that got my blood pressure rising to places it should never go were:
- creating You Tube playlists
- filtering data in descending order in Google Sheets
The final thing to stump me was performing tasks in the Google Omnibox. What the #@%& is the Google Omni box? I asked my facilitator & was promptly told to google it. I thought to myself through gritted teeth 'What the #@%& do you think I've been doing for the last seven minutes!!' After reading and watching YouTube clips I discovered that the Google Omnibox is just the search bar - something I frequently use!!!
Anyway, relief! It's all over now & definitely time for a beersie.
Prior to this exam we had a dive into the 'Ubiquitous' component of the Learn, Create, Share pedagogy. Ubiquitous is not a word that's in my vernacular but I clearly understand and tautoko the concept. It's about learning:
- anywhere
- anytime
- at any pace
The beauty of rewindable learning that learners can come back to any time. I liked the two sayings: "If it's worth teaching, it's worth capturing." "If it's worth learning, it's worth capturing."
In considering being ubiquitous, I now need more active reflection on what tools I can use in my leadership role to be ubiquitous. Google Sites seems a great starting place for sharing knowledge, resources and planning.
As I sign out from this, my last DFI day, I can proudly say that I am now digitally fluent. I know that these skills will help me to better collaborate and empower my staff. We've been blessed with a great group of educators to work with in our group - this face to face contact has helped to build relationships & cement professional networks amongst our Tairawhiti Manaiakalani Programme Outpost schools.
Now, where's that beer?
Yes exactly...where is that beer??
ReplyDeleteI was gutted I couldn't join you all for a beer! Well done Perky, I've really enjoyed getting to know you over the last 9 weeks.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds pretty close to time Perky. Down to the last minute and a half.! You must have been on the plane when we did that youtube playlist stuff.
ReplyDeleteKia ora Helen,
ReplyDeleteCongratualtions on completeing the DFI as well as passing the exam. I have seen you shift in your digital fluency over the nine weeks. It is great to see the way you are picking up the tools and using them for your school and in your Convenor role.
I really appreciate working with you in The Manaiakalani Outreach Programme as you are both thoughtful and proactive.
Ngā mihi,
Maria
